Many professional sports franchises found their demise in the 90's, and the Houston Oilers were no different. Although a powerhouse in the AFL, (winning the two first-ever championships back to back), after the AFL-NFL merger, the Oilers would never again be on top. Earl Campbell, legendary running back in the late 70's and 80's, may have been their greatest contribution to the NFL. In the 90's, the Oilers showed their legacy was coming to an end. In '91, Houston was 2 minutes away from their first NFL Conference Title until John Elway and the Broncos drove 80 yards to kick a game-winning field goal. In 1992, the Oilers finally made history: They blew a record 35--3 lead over the Bills to lose the AFC Wild Card Playoff, until finally losing in overtime 41-38. In '93, they had the best record in Texas history, 12-4, only to lose in the second round of the playoffs. The Houston Oilers ended their franchise a year earlier than expected in 1996, however, the smooth color-way of their uniforms remains in our hearts and can again be on our heads.
